Rosie was born August 25, 2017. Her birth was like a religious experience compared to Henry’s birth. This time, I labored at home most of the day. We went in early in the afternoon and she was born a few hours later. We were scheduled to go in that morning to get induced, but thank the Lord she decided to come on her own.
The moment she was born was the most empowering moment of my life. When Henry was born, it was the opposite. He wasn’t breathing and I felt numb and sick with fear- overcome with every emotion and somehow emotionless. With Rosalie, I felt everything was right. I knew. When she came, it was just the moment she wanted to come. The one piece of advice I have for expectant mothers is to have no expectations. It’s always going to be worse or better than you imagine, but in the end it’s just as it was meant to be.
I was honestly so scared about another labor, another baby, another year of sleepless nights, of sharing myself with another little person…of pulling my attention in yet another direction. I wonder if all mothers are scared of this with their second and third babies. You wonder if your heart could possibly grow to hold another heart.
It totally can.
The moment they put that little pink baby on my chest, I knew it was right. It was meant to be from the beginning of time, and I was just acting my part. The sleepless nights don’t matter because my heart is full to bursting and I am just in awe of the beautiful, healthy life I got the chance to usher into the world.
This is a great way to get your baby to get nutrients first thing in the morning!
- 1/2 cup Annie’s whole milk vanilla yogurt
- Handful spinach
- Frozen banana
- 1/4 cup frozen mixed fruit
- 1/4 cup oatmeal
- Spoonful of peanut butter
Henry loves to drink through a straw so that helps too. He liked it!
The forecast for this weekend looks like this: And with daddy out of town, we have been watching Netflix and playing inside. Here are a few fun/ cheap sensory ideas for babies 12-18 months:
1. Sensory bin/ cooking with beans: fill a bin with various trinkets and let baby go to town. I went to the dollar store and picked up: two packages of beans, ping pong balls, creepy crawly friends, bag of decorative rocks, and some digging tools. Henry likes to dig through the box and also strew the beans around the room. 🙃
You can also grab a small muffin tin and let your baby fill it up with beans. Fun!
2. Piggy Bank- cut a hole in the top of an old plastic container. Let them fill up the bucket with coins. Monitor to make sure the coins don’t end up in their mouth.
3. Homemade play dough…here are a few recipes that look enticing. We’ll have to try them later today! No cook clay and The best homemade play dough.
4. Bath paint
- 1/4 c. Baby shampoo or soap
- 1/4 c. cornstarch
- 1-2 T. water
- A few drops food coloring
Combine shampoo and cornstarch. Add water 1/2 Tbs at a time until you get your desired consistency. Then add food coloring!
Happy Rainy Day Playing!
Listening to: The Lumineers– Good stuff. Lots of songs with Girls’ names. Will our daughter be “Ophelia?” Or perhaps “Cleopatra?” “Angela?”
MOANA! What a great soundtrack. Lin Manuel-Miranda kills it again. Also Henry likes to sing along.
Reading: The Complete Book of Baby Names. Which name did they add to make it 100,001? And how can it be that none of these names are “the one?” The quest continues.
Wearing: Maternity Essential Tank and FLATS<< these are actually really comfy and cute. Also currently loving this Revlon lipstick. Just as good as those expensive jobbies.
Watching: THE OFFICE on Netflix. WILL JIM AND PAM EVER BE TOGETHER?
Hunting for: Baby girl clothes 😱 How can I possibly restrain myself.
Lake and Ellie
Is there anything cuter than a baby romper?
I’m starting this blog because I never want to forget these moments. I have so much love surrounding me and I can’t get enough of it- I need to share it. Springtime makes me feel like anything is possible. Everything is growing, (including me :/) and it just makes everything seem so exciting. Here’s to making it through the week to another amazing, slow weekend with the two people that make it all worth it.
